Abby as Ingrid Michaelson

She is definitely my 4th child. My first was singing songs by Raffi, nursery rhymes and Primary songs. Abby sings "I love the way you call me "baby"... oh well..

Luck o' the Irish... but we're not Irish

Ethan is the luckiest kid in the world. He is constantly winning drawings, and has complete confidence every time there is a drawing that he will win. Before they even started drawing names he told me that he wanted the "Jenga" game.

Here he is winning again! In fact Elise won too.

It was "Math Night" at the school. For every math game the kids played they got a ticket to go in a drawing. Abby even rocked some of those math games. She is sooo ready for school!

The tickets then went in a drawing and if your name was drawn you got to pick a game from the prize shelf. We scored with 2 winners!

Flashback Friday- 80's Evening TV

So, last weeks post about old shows I watched as a small child got me wandering on Youtube and I found some favorite gems of mine from 80s evening television.
I used to watch "The Littlest Hobo" on Saturday nights while my mom put pink foam curlers in my hair for church Sunday (again this program is lost on you if you aren't Canadian) It was kindof the Canadian version of Lassie

Remember nights watching this one?
Murdoch was so funny, Mr. T so cool and that blonde, so handsome.

I believe this was on Sundays at 6. Betcha still remember all the words to the song!

What did you like to watch as a kid?

Kite Runner Review

We had our book club meeting Tuesday night to discuss "The Kite Runner" While a few of the ladies didn't care for the book, I really liked it! I would recommend it. It is not a light book however.
As I thought about the book and why I liked it, I thought about other books I enjoyed and why I like them. A very memorable book I read in grade 4 was "Beat The Turtle Drum" the story of a girl who's sister dies falling out of their family tree house. The story is told from her perspective and how she deals with her sister's death. A book I enjoyed in Jr. High was "Something Wicked This Way Comes" a story about good and evil. In High School I loved the tragic story of Hamlet, and a book called "A Seperate Peace" a story again of innocence and the loss of innocence, good and evil.
Are you sensing a theme of the kind of books I like to read? I guess I am a sucker for a tragic story and character struggles between good and evil, which "The Kite Runner" is. It is also a story of family, friendship and redemption. I also liked that the book took place in Afghanistan. It made me want to learn more about Afghanistan, it's people, history and culture. I found it very culturally educational as well.

Loving this song

I am loving this song by Ingrid Michaelson. Especially the line about the Rogaine :-) I love that the song is so simple and she is granola. What do you think?

Extreme Makeover- Puppy Edition

Last week we finally gave up trying to keep the mattes out of Star's fur and got her groomed. She looked so cute and furry before...
The "after"

Awww... I'm sure she felt naked. Doesn't she even look a bit embarassed? Her hair had got so long they just had to shave her. I'll be glad when it grows back in a bit more.

Kinda reminds me of this lady's makeover gone wrong

YIKES! Can you imagine how much money she spent to look so awful?

Bag Tag

My sister bag tagged me forever ago and I am finally getting to it. Strange that she should pick me, she being my sister and all should know I do NOT carry a purse, bag... nothing. I lost my wallet once in Jr. High and I haven't carried a purse since (ok, occasionally on a night out I might take one- but 99.9% of the time this is my "purse" where I carry all necessary items: my trusty back pocket!!

My lack of a purse bugs Brad to no end, he even bought me a beautiful purse in Italy, but if I use it I might loose it! So, it makes its appearance on those evenings we go out together and the only thing/person I have to keep track of is me... and my purse.
When Christie "bag tagged" me this was what was in my pocket.

Just so happens I had been to the vet and the library that day hence those cards, and the only reason I am carrying cash is because I.... ahem.... lost my bank card. Usually I only carry my bank card and my license stays in the car. Brad seems to think had I a purse I wouldn't have lost my bank card, but I argue, I might have lost my whole purse!! Now I only have to replace my bank card... nothing else that I would have been carrying in my purse and I still have my lovely Italian purse. Makes sense doesn't it?

I tag Annika, Becky and Shawna

Jewell Carnival

Last Friday the kids school had a carnival. I thought I would post a couple of pics from their fun evening. Best of all, I just showed up and volunteered for a couple hours instead of trying to run the activity... did I just say that? I am enjoying my year of being in the shadows, next year I'll step up again. I suffer from PTA burnout.

Sunday funnies- Abby

Ever get bummed out about not fitting into a favorite dress or outfit from a few pounds ago? Or wish you could be a kid again? Well, Abby has the answer for you.

While picking out a dress for church on Sunday Abby picked a dress in her closet which after holding it up to her, we determined was too small. I broke the news to her "I think this dress is too small for you now, it is a size 3" to which she replied... "That's OK, I can wear it when I'm resurrected"

I guess we'll have to explain resurrection a little better this Easter.
