Flashback Friday- 16 years ago today 1992

THEN & NOW

As I mentioned before it was 16 years ago today that Brad and I went out on our first date and he won me over by playing the intro to "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, on the piano at the WILK (Wilkinson center) at BYU (although I see that calling it the WILK now even dates me- I guess it's the WSC now (?)).
Honestly the only reason I remember the actual date is because it was the same date as 2 of my friends birthdays and I remember that I wanted to be sure to wish them a happy birthday before I went out that night. I don't know how many people actually have a picture of their first date with their spouse, but I am lucky enough to have one. Granted it's not that best picture as it is a "self-portrait" and before the days of digital cameras (gasp! I'm so old) so you never knew what you were going to get. Who knew what we were starting that day.
We don't look so young and perky in our most recent "self portrait", but I choose to believe we look so much more full of maturity and wisdom now.
I will leave you with video from that intro that won me over, oh so long ago (although the song is really from '81) Becky, do you even remember Brad playing the piano that night?

In particular I am digging the leopard print shirt, the afro, and the oh so cool gym shorts on the drummer. Good thing Brad wasn't wearing those that night!

Don't tell me you wouldn't have fallen for a guy who could play that intro? (unless of course he was wearing those shorts, maybe)

If you don't ________ you don't get dessert!

These are a great incentive to get your kids/husband to eat their dinner, or do anything really. Decide what horrible task needs to be done and then pull these out of the oven. Consider the task done! Got your task in mind? Great... now click on this link to go to "The Pioneer Woman Cooks" blog and get her recipe for cinnamon rolls. OK, I totally LOVE "The Pioneer Woman Cooks" blog. Remember the Marlboro man sandwich and the French Breakfast Puffs? Yesterday I decided to make her cinnamon rolls and they were so easy and soooooo delicious. Big mistake was starting them at 2pm though. By the time we made the dough and let it rise and the kids came home from school etc. it was rather caotic. But... we did get them made. It does make 7 pie pans, so decide ahead of time who you are going to give them to, or consider yourself 10 pounds heavier.

While my presentation is less than perfect, they are perfectly delicious.

Proof that men have tender moments too.

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wiped a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.

"What's the matter, dear" she whispers as she steps into the room, "Why are you down her at this time of night?

The husband looks up from his coffee, "It's the 20th Anniversary of the day we met".

She can't believe he has remembered and starts to tear up.

The husband continues, "Do you remember 20 years ago when we started dating? I was 18 and you were only 16," he says solemnly.

Once again, the wife is touched to tears thinking that her husband is so caring and sensitive. "Yes, I do" she replies.

The husband pauses. The words were not coming easily. "Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?"

"Yes, I remember" said the wife lowering herself into a chair beside him.

The husband continued. "Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to prison for 20 years?"

"I remember that, too" she replied softly.

He wiped another tear from his cheek and said "I would have gotten out today."

(Thanks to Amy for this one)

March 14th will mark 16 years since Brad and I had our first date, so I thought this was "appropriate"
