Why so long?

After saying... "I don't have time", "I'll have to book 3 weeks out, and I don't know what I'll be doing in 3 weeks", "I can't- we're going out of town", "I can't- we have company coming to town" etc, etc. You know how it goes. Last Friday I finally got my haircut! It was so embarassing... I hadn't had my hair cut since the beginning of December of last year!! It was looking pretty mangey. I even declined a lunch date with a girl friend because "I have a hair appointment" I NEVER thought I would be one of "those people."
I'm trying out this new look. Why did I wait so long?? So I have vowed to NEVER let this separation from my hair dresser to happen again!
How long do YOU wait between visits to the hairdresser?

Summer Days Drifting Away

Last week the kids ate their supper outside and were running around and screaming around the yard, then all of a sudden it got quiet. I looked outside to see this sweet scene. Aww...how sweet... two siblings chatting quietly enjoying a warm Indian summer night until I realized...
They were really just lying quietly on the blanket to watch a show on Brad's ipod! LOL!
While not quite as sweet as the thought of them sharing a conversation it was still cute to watch them sharing a peaceful sibling moment.

Amphibian Adventures

We have been trying to make it up to Todd Lake since early July, when we couldn't get in because there was still snow and ended up at Sparks... remember that adventure?
We finally made it up there this Saturday and were richly rewarded with a BEAUTIFUL day with tonnes of tadpoles AND frogs. I couldn't believe there were so many tadpoles this late in the year, but considering there was still snow blocking access in July I suppose everything is late this year.
We were watching the Victor girls and everyone had fun foraging for the little guys

Ethan chose to bring home tadpoles, and Abby brought home frogs Brianna and Samantha were "too cool" to dig for frogs and just chatted by the lake
Check out the gazillion tadpoles in the video!!
Star had a great time too enjoying the lack of a leash law now that it is after Sept 15th!

Our cool crew
and YES... I came home with the dog this time!!

Ketchup

I am again among the land of the living and it is
Time to Ketchup!!

Turns out I had bronchitis, and I don't think it was bacterial as the antibiotics really didn't seem to help, but I DID enjoy the cough syrup with codeine!!
Once I started feeling better it was time to catch up on my daily tasks that had been woefully neglected... like my laundry... this is the pile of laundry Brad and I folded last night... phew!!

Life continued to march on even though I wasn't 100%...
Ethan was determined to learn how to crochet and actually did a really good job. I was very impressed.

I never thought he would have the patience, but here is one of his long chains he made.

Abby had a fun play date with Lily and we made this fun tent.

Abby and Ethan started karate class (every Wednesday after school)
Here is Abby's assessment of her karate class.

When I asked the kids how they liked their karate class the first day, all they could both say was "It burns!!" LOL!

Samantha and Elise also started their music lessons. Samantha is taking private flute and piano lessons, as well as learning the trombone at school. Elise is also taking piano lessons and starts her rock climbing class today. Abby is also taking swim class 2x/week.

Ethan asked us a few weeks ago if we would take him to a football game, so we looked up the Bend High School schedule and headed out for the game Friday night. Wouldn't you know it though, that one of the 5 times a year it rains in Bend was just after we got to the game! It only lasted about 5-10 minutes though, so we toughed it out. Ethan bought 50/50 tickets and was only 10 numbers away from winning!! We figured out that the guy who bought tickets just before the lady who bought before us was the winner. Bummer... so close!!

The "Lava Bears" really stunk, and lost 45-6, and the 6 were scored in the last minute. But it was a fun outing anyway. We'll have to go again!

This is just a fun picture of Abby eating her pie Sunday night in her "sleeping hat" I am feeling much better now, so stay tuned.... :-)

Under the weather

I've been a under the weather for a few days now. Which really isn't fun, especially since we are enjoying an "Indian Summer" of temps in the low 90's and upper 80's. :-( I should be out IN the weather!!

BUT... It has given me a chance to get started on this book: "Those Who Love" that I am reading for book club. So far I am loving it! It takes place in Massachusetts and so I can actually see, smell, feel and hear the places and things that are described in the book. It is the story of John and Abigail Adams. Very fun and interesting. If you are looking for a good read, pick it up and we can talk about it :-)
I have drugs now and some codeine to help me (and Brad) get through the night, so I hope to be up and running again soon.

Calling all crafters

I am in the throws of finding crafts for our upcoming "Super Saturday." I am looking for cheap (prefereably $10 and under) but cute crafts to do.
If you have any ideas would you shoot me an email or leave me a link to something cute you have done or seen done?
Thanks!!

DJ Campout

On Friday we had our campout with the Peak 104.1 DJs and it was so fun!! It was the perfect way to camp. They provided the food and entertainment and all we had to do was set up our tent.

We arrived and set up our tent and they fed us cheeseburgers and hotdogs with all the fixin's, salads and nachos. After supper they had a scanvenger hunt and a little tria game about Dave and Bryon.

Samantha and I represented our "brood"Unfortunately we got kicked out on a "trick" question and didn't win :-( We had a campfire and they had brought stuff for s'mores. So that was fun and then we got to chat around the campfire and talk about the show and the business of radio. It was actually quite educational and they were of course very funny as well.
Did you know that the radio gets their playlist and is even told what order to play them in?! I was suprised it was that regimented. In the morning we had the choice of breakfast cereal, bagels, or a yummy breakfast burrito. Then after breakfast there were more giveaways and when our turn came to pick a prize from their selection, I let Ethan choose and he chose this.....????

There was better stuff, but he thought the egg carton was pretty cool I guess. I think they took pitty on us and gave Brad one of the "extra" prizes- a quilted camping jacket.

Here's our group. They were some of the nicest people. All really nice families. I even met a guy who was Jacoby Ellsbury's neighbour and has known him since he was a toddler. He told me that Jacoby is really a good, humble guy. Yeah!! LOVE Jacoby!! Here we are with Dave and Bryon on Saturday morning.

Check out how small Bryon is... even stepping on a log he's still shorter than Dave. They had a "free for all" for the kids of a bunch of left over stuff from their "prize closet." I took a little video of the dash

It really was SO fun!! I've decided that is the way to camp... just set up the tent and let others provide the food and entertainment.

Come on now... I know you're all jealous..... :-)
